Huygens building: Science faculty Nijmegen

Raboud University Nijmegen campus (vcbio site) show on a larger map

The Huygens building (HG) introduced here is since a few years the main building of the faculty of Sciences of the Radboud University Nijmegen. As also students, lecturers, scientists and other employees involved in education and research in Biology are spending a great dealof their time in the "Huygens", it seemed a good reason to reserve a special place to this beautiful building in the Nijmegen site for Biology (to the home page).

The transparant architectonic structure of the building concords with the present view of multidisciplinary thematic research, a broad approach in teaching and the idea that grouping teaching, research and auxillary departments of the faculty under one roof is beneficial for cohesion. The functional and where possible elegant style directed towards the future can be also encountered in the other buildings of the Science Faculty: the High-Field Magnet laboratory (HFML), the NMR-Goudsmit pavilion named "The blue lily", the Logistic Center, the below-ground Nanolab, the experimental greenhouse complex with the root lab, the entirely renovated A-wing with the Technocenter and the Flare (Free-electron Laser for Advanced spectroscopy and high-Resolution Experiments) still under construction.
