All elements of a leaf with mesomorph characteristics can be clearly distinguished in this section of lilac, a plant growing in temperate zones. The well-developed vascular bundles associated with supporting tissue give the leaf firmness. Extensions (trichomes originating from the epidermis) are visible on the leaf surface.
